I had contacted the home owners of The Texas Rose when I was going thru files from a previous group that I was case manager for. The Founder did not want to take this case because it was (to far to drive).   As I was going thru deleting files from my computer I tried to delete this one, (not reading It) but it would not delete, The others in the file did, But not this one.  So I (curious) opened it and read it and felt the need to contact the home owner.   I called her and we started talking. At first she was short with me, being a little upset would sum it up.
This family had been thru a lot and only wanted some sort of means of help in understanding what was going on and how to handle it, having no help come thru in years for them with their cry of pleas for help.  Talking with her was a very interesting conversation. She was feeling me out as I was in deed doing the same to her. I was picking up on so much from talking with her that I felt her urgency cry for help and wanted to do what Our team could to help her and her family out.  When we arrived at her home it was around seven o'clock on a Saturday in February.
Team members present were Melven, Mark, Jay and myself. We immediately upon arrival Mel and Mark talked to the home owners. And I walked around a little outside,

I felt a lot of different things coming from the land. A feeling of death and uncertainty. After they had finished talking with the owners we did a quick walk thru of the home and I told them where I would like for the equipment to be set up at. I felt a sadness around the master bedroom, the walk in closet and the computer room. Not realizing that the computer room was under the walk in closet. We had went down to the bottom level of the home and set a camera up in front of the downstairs bathroom.

Mel, Mark, Jay and I did down time there for about 30 min when I felt an energy come in the room. We had lasers set up to cross the doorway of the bathroom. When I told the team that I felt an energy shift come into the room the Laser broke, I felt and seen the presence of a lady late twenties go into the bathroom that is when the laser broke.

I asked her if she wanted us to know something and the camera shut off. (never in all the investigations) that we had done and used this camera had it ever done this.  I then felt the energy of a man come into the room.

I asked if it was the homes Builder and previous owner, I had said his name and asked if it was him. When going back thru the recorders we got a mans voice saying (Heavenly Father) right after I said Mr.**** is that you. We then went into the master bedroom where we experienced a very dim light in the window, that we could not figure out where it was coming from, It would flicker and go away, and a faint knocking sound was coming from her (Built in Book case) that was attached to the wall.

We walked then went into the walk in closet where we all got a smell of Roses that past by us and then went away. We sat in there for about an hour or more. As we were sitting in there I started feeling very uneasy (this is unlike me to ever feel this way) I wanted to start crying almost to the point of sobbing loud. I told the team we needed to leave the area for awhile. We then went into the second master bedroom where we all smelled the sent of old time snuff. ( if anyone remembers that smell) some of us older ones do. We then preceded to go into her sons bedroom, When all the team (the four of us ) were in the room we had what to be footsteps coming down the hallway towards us. ( the home owners (her and her husband) were in the dining area where they stayed thru out the entire investigation, so we knew it was not them . Mel looked out into the hallway and did not see anyone. We then preceded to the bottom floor again where we called it a wrap. We had packed up the equipment and was walking the back yard with the home owners when I seen the lady again sitting in a swing and swinging in the back yard. I felt the home was sitting over the tree. When I told the home owners of what I seen , They told me that the home was moved back from the original site where it was sitting a few yards, and they also told me that one of the workers they had there had to go under the home to do some work and told them that there was a huge tree stump under the back of the house. ( weird humm?)
As far as can my team say it is Haunted, I will say they have a lot of paranormal (unexplained) activity going on. This is an ongoing investigation. My team and I have the up most respect for this family and their privacy. they themselves have suffered a great deal. We as a Native American team will do everything in our power to go beyond what we can do to help them.

Heavenly Father

Heavenly Father (Cleaned)

We will add the follow up on the investigation at a later date.

I had asked the home owner to write something in her own words about her and her families experience and this is what she wrote.

INDIAN HUNTING GROUNDS

The building site of the house was originally the hunting ground for a group of independent tribes/bands, which banded together in the early eighteenth century in the area. There is evidence, which suggests the tribe migrated from the high plains as late as the seventeenth century into this area.

THE ORIGINAL FAMILY AS OWNERS

The original owner of the house was considered one of the pioneer settlers and prominent farmers of the area with the acquisition of 1500 acres. After the purchase of land, he commissioned the house to be built in 1900. The owners employed anywhere from 4-12 people providing small homes on their property and paying the workers to the farm hands working the cotton fields.

Research validated the pattern of “loss of prosperity” for all the owners – including the original owner. Shortly after he purchased the 1500 acres records show he started selling off land or renegotiating the loans for the property. During the 1920’s court documents show the owner began selling land, which continued during the 1930’s and 1950’s.

The owner passed away in 1953 and his wife passed away in 1966. The house remained in the family until the death of the last remaining son in 1979.

THE EARLY HOUSE

There is little information regarding the original configuration of the home – other that what descendents have provided. It was built as a two story with possibly 4 bedrooms (all upstairs) and fireplaces in each room for heat.

During the later part of the owner’s life he lived on the lower level in what is now used as the dining room. The front bedroom directly above the dining room was his wife’s bedroom, however, when she occupied the room, there was no bathroom facilities in the front bedroom and the closet was much smaller, not the walk-in closet it currently has. It is unknown when the modifications took place.

With the passing of the son, the house was sold several times and the house began a series of devastating situations and decline.

RENOVATIONS / UPDATING

The renovations in the 1980’s include the house physically moved deeper in the property by a new owner, a single man who was engaged to be married. For unknown reasons, the couple did not marry and the house went into foreclosure. A later owner also added a barn on the property.

FORECLOSURES / DECLINE

The house was purchased by a Trust Fund approximately one year after the owner’s son’s death. The house was first foreclosed on in late 1986 approximately 18 months to two years after it was first purchased.

The home stayed in foreclosure until December 1987 when it was again purchased. The property was returned to the market approximately 18 months after purchase. For unknown reasons, the owner purchased another home in neighboring community (while still owning this property) the first quarter 1999 and simply “walked away” from this house leaving his sensitive client files in the barn loft. The bank foreclosed on it around November 1999 and he subsequently file bankruptcy.

Another family purchased the house on early 2000. They returned the house to the market due to job loss approximately 18 months after the purchase.

We purchased the house on mid-2002, returned the house to the market 18 months due to failing health (inability to work) and have yet to have a sale go to close but have resided in the house since its purchase.

LEGENDS

All the locals refer to the house as haunted house because no one seems to stay very long in it and it keeps getting foreclosed on. Added to that it is over 100 years old you have the perfect setting for a haunted house. Within a couple of weeks of us moving in, a complete stranger saw us in the yard and asked if the house was haunted. We asked him why and he said because no one lives in the house very long – around a year or 18 months.

There is a tale from the daughter of one family who lived here (and let the property go into foreclosure). She told school friends the house was haunted. There is also unsubstantiated information the mother-developed cancer while living here.

We asked one of the descendants if he had heard of any stories about the house being haunted house and he simply laughed and said no.

INTRODUCTION:

We understand that many readers of our account of our experiences in this house will test the reader’s current belief system – not only from a logical aspect but also from a spiritual one. We are not here trying to persuade you to accept or believe our experiences, but rather just to share them.

One question that everyone first asks is how did we end up buying this house. It was a time of a seller’s market and sellers were asking outrageous prices for everything. We had made numerous offers on other properties, which were not accepted. After several months we discovered this house on the Internet and saw a reduced price. (Yes that should have been the first clue. But since it was in a farming area we thought that was the problem.)

We visited the property and talked with the current owner. I had asked the owner directly if the house was haunted. He made a snide remark about no self respecting ghost would come near the place with 6 kids living there. The subject was dropped.

HAUNTING AND CURSE

Our issue with the house is not with the haunting … it is the “coyote medicine” – curse on the land. We were able to figure out what needed to be done years ago (cleansing/”quieting”/”Sealing” of the land) and by whom it needed to be done by (Native American’s). But connecting with those with this special ability was another matter. We knew no matter what structure was built on the land, there would always be problems because of the land.

Our knowledge that the problem was with the land not the house was confirmed in an extensive conversation with the well-known paranormal investigator. We reached out to several groups within the paranormal and religious communities without success. (A member of TAPS (“GHOST HUNTERS) offered to do a blessing but we could not afford the airline ticket to bring him here.) We tried everything recommended meeting only with partial success. When I asked paranormal groups for someone with Native American traditions/medicine men, calls would never be returned.

Unsuccessful attempts to get the Catholic Church were made (and the local Church has an exorcist assigned to it). We asked a Methodist minister to assist us who blessed the house twice. After the first blessing one week to the day after the blessing (which was Halloween) my son was run off the road into a ditch in front of his school. The next blessing took place 3 months later. This time the pastor, his wife and my husband were stricken with inexplicable pain for a week requiring prescription painkillers. Further, the minister reported disturbances in his home after the second blessing. The minister has not returned.

Knowing you have a curse on the land is one thing. Remedying it is another. The problem with trying to remedy the curse (“coyote medicine”) on the land (other than the obvious) is that because we don't know WHAT was put on the land and where the original four corners of the property is and what the medicine man buried and where it is. Without this information all that can be done is to try to “seal” the land. Anita picked up that there was jealousy between the tribes over the “prosperity” of one or more tribes and thus the medicine man used coyote medicine to destroy the other tribes prosperity / abundance of food.

Since we are still in the house, we don't know how this story is going to end, although Anita and her group and the elders are working to resolve or at least “seal” the curse on the property. Hopefully, we will be able to get back on track and recover from the issues over the last several years.

PROTECTOR OF THE HOUSE - DICHOTOMY

Through all the adversity we have gone through here and are still going through, I have become very protective of the house and who is interested in buying it. With the number of failed contracts on the property I am convinced that if the house does not like the buyer, the sale will not go through. What realtors have referred to as “bizarre” actions have occurred during each of the escrow process. One such event was a loss of phone service for five days (telephone company could not explain) during critical negotiations.

One incident is somewhat interesting. The house had been under contract for months without being able to go to close. One afternoon while I was alone in the house, I sat in the dining room (I rarely go into the old section of the house) performing some intuitive / meditative work. I stated if we weren't supposed to sell the house to provide me an unmistakable sign. I no more than I got that thought out, a truck pulled up in front of the house and a man began walking down the drive. I met him at the front door. At the same time, my husband pulled into the driveway. The man introduced himself telling us he lived in a different city and he was a descendent of the owner and passed this house “hundreds” of times during visits to the city but for some reason today, he decided he needed to stop NOW. He asked to see the house (which we obliged him) and he provided additional information about the house and the family. The timing of my request to give me an unmistakable sign we needed to stay and the arrival of this man was all we needed at this point to prove there were unseen forces with us. The sale? Through a comedy of not so funny errors and several more months, the sale did not go through. As it turned out, there may have been significant complications for us if the house sale had gone through.

THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT

As I was recovering from a serious medical problem, I now spent all day in the house. I can sum up the activity briefly because it like so many other haunting's or cursed property: Knockings, voices, music not from our time period, apparitions, doors opening and closing (which really aren't), heavy sighs, food smells in the middle of the night, footsteps following you, horrendous smells of decaying things and sulfa smells, attacks on those who try to help, electrical failures, continual mechanical breakdowns, equipment not lasting very long, extensive bills, workers walking off the job and leaving expensive tools, health problems. Noteworthy here is non-family members experience these anomalies too. Some of my son’s friends will not spend the night here. Other’s make sure someone is with them when they leave my son’s room.

The day that Anita contacted me (out of the blue and YEARS after making a request to a group) and finally having one take the case,(and being Native) needless to say it was an interesting day with paranormal activity. The kitchen door and exterior computer room door sounded like they were continually opening and closing. Upon investigating I discovered the doors were locked. When in the computer room I repeatedly heard car doors open and close. Several times I got up to look to make sure someone wasn't here.

The sense of doom (for lack of better words) began immediately after we closed on the house with me experiencing a total breakdown immediately after close. I wanted to rescind the deal, however, my husband did not. We did not stay in the house until approximately one week after close because I simply didn't want the house and didn't like being in it. With livestock being delivered, we had no choice.

As with many haunted homes, there seems to be hot beds of activity. Our hot spots are the computer room, master bedroom (specifically the bookcase), kitchen and guest bath (or so I am told on this room). There have been several times when I was NOT able to lie in bed with my back to the bookcase because of eerie feelings.

Anita and her group captured several paranormal occurrences during their brief investigations. In the master bathroom while standing in front of the closet door, we heard open. In the second master, in one very specific location there was a strong tobacco smell. Anita’s group captured EVP’s, Orbs and experienced battery drains and shadows.

Anita asked me to relay some of the occurrences, so here is an overview. As you read these entries understand that these are NOT isolated occurrences but a sampling of the things that go on day to day.

SMELLS. When we first moved here and for the first few years, we would have horrible smells like that of something dying or sulfa smells. At first we believed animals were dying under the house but inspections subsequent to sale contracts and work done on the house indicated there was no indication that any animals had died. In the last couple of years, however, the smells are that of comfort foods being cooked at all hours of the day and night. Some times the smell is so strong it will wake us up from sleeping. Preparing this document for Anita and the sudden smell of something sweet is going through the computer room. Unusual because the computer room has all our barn shoes in it and the aroma of the barn or like a men’s locker room

There is a man’s voice (maybe the same on the EVP that Anita captured). The man’s voice is NOT threatening but rather calming, matter of fact. One time I was alone in the house taking a shower when a man’s voice stated “It’s time to leave now”. Another time while in the computer room I heard a man say “Hey. We're home were are you at?” This occurred twice more and on the third time I got up only to see my son getting out of the car my husband was driving. I was alone in the house. Another time I was laying in bed our son was gone, husband downstairs from behind me I heard a deep male voice (sounded old) say "HELP ME" - I turned around and no one was there. Along with this (but I could never discern whether it was a man or a woman), are numerous the long, heavy sighs.

The opening and closing of car doors is almost a daily occurrence. This happens so frequently, most of the time we don't bother to check to see if anyone is there. This is a recent example. I was working on the computer. Husband told me my son said he would be home around 10:00PM. Our son has a really unique distinct sounding muffler, which I heard around 10:00 PM. I got up to unlock the door because he always comes in this way when the light is on in the room. After about 20 minutes our son hadn't come through the door. I surmised for some reason he used his key to come in another door. I went upstairs and asked my husband if our son had checked in with him and was told he wasn't home yet. I explained the above and went to the old part of the house where our son’s room is. As I crossed the threshold from the new part to old part, I heard his TV going. I shouted our son’s name but no answer. I went to his room and his TV WAS NOT on and he was not home yet. He didn't get home until 10:30 PM.

There was one recent occurrence that did disturb me. While cooking in the kitchen, saw reflection of a car door, heard the slam of a car door and saw shadow pass in front of kitchen window (we have curtains in the window). I thought the person was going to the front door so I opened the kitchen door to have them come in through the kitchen and there was no one there. A few minutes later while in the kitchen, I saw a black mist floating along the ceiling in the dining room and then it just disappeared.

As with any good haunted house saga there needs to be full body apparitions. I have witnessed two and a friend of my son’s has witnessed one. Both of mine were men and my son’s friend saw a young girl pointing at him. One of the full body apparitions was so solid I thought someone was walking in from the pasture. Since there was heavy dew, we checked for footprints and there were none. Another apparition was from the waist up somewhat translucent standing behind me with a smirk on his face. I realized the man was around 5' 8" or 5' 10" tall, had straight black hair and didn't say any thing then just disappeared. When I got back to the room I asked my husband if he was awake and he said yes. I told him about it and he didn't say anything. Later than night two electronic devices malfunctioned. The two apparitions I saw were not frightening or threatening but the young girl seen by my son’s friend frightened him.

Typical in haunting's are the electronic devices that malfunction on a routine basis. We have had clock/radios which were not set go off on several occasions, telephone rings with no caller ID displaying and no one on the other end, workmen will have fully charged battery operated equipment suddenly have the battery drain, computer will make Morse code dot and dash sounds with the cursor dancing in unison to the sound, ceiling fans start up by themselves. One of my favorite stories is about an appraiser. Pursuant to a contract on the house, the loan company sent out an appraiser. He could not get ANYTHING to work correctly. His fully charged digital camera, drained when he came in the house, as did electronic measuring devices. Measurements, which are used to figure the total square footage of the house for appraisal, did not match ANY previous inspection or appraisal. He had to take the same measurement several times using several different methods to get an accurate measurement. We have experienced an extraordinary number of mechanical failures. The repetitive nature of new devices breaking down is not normal. A fairly new air conditioning unit (2 years old) stopped working. The repair person said the coils had actually melted together and if we had not caught it when we did the house would have burned down. This is not an isolated incident.

One of the most disconcerting parts of this situation is the feeling that we are under attack. We have suffered tremendous financial losses (part of the “coyote medicine” loss of prosperity issue). An early instance occurred when we sold our old house. The county solicitor (attorney) telephoned us requesting copies of all the documents regarding the sale specifically indicating a certain term of the sale. We were dumbstruck and suggested he call the realtor (to whom we had just paid $20,000 in realtor commission to) to supply them. He advised us the realtor could not (or would not) provide the specific documents. Luckily we were able to supply the documents to disprove the buyer’s claim. Had we not had this documentation we would have ended up in a legal fray with the purchaser. Another example is the mortgage company believing they had cancelled our homeowner’s insurance policy on this house and charged us $5,000 for ANOTHER policy, which drastically increased our monthly mortgage payment. It took us (are you ready for this?) 18 months and more than 50 phones with the mortgage company and our insurance company to prove we did indeed have insurance all the time. This is typical of what we encounter all the time. There have been bizarre incidents focusing on my son. Our son was coming home from a friend’s house around 10:00-11:00PM. He was about 5 minutes away from his friends home when the rear right tire suddenly deflated and came off the rim and he lost control of the car hitting a guardrail. The tire did not blow out it simply suddenly deflated and came off the rim. Our son was OK but there was $2,000 car damage. He returned to his friend’s who was 5 minutes away so he would have light to change the tire. The tire that was on the car was fairly new and the dealer had just rotated the tires a month ago. He changed the tire to the spare - the spare had been mounted on the rim from the dealer. Half way between our house and his friends, the second spare tire DID THE EXACT SAME THING. SIMPLY RAPIDLY DEFLATED AND CAME OFF THE RIM. This time he was at a gas station (no mechanic) and called my husband. Husband and he were able to put the tire on the rim and inflate it. Spare tire is JUST FINE. The statistic probability of the same odd thing occurring within minutes of each other is astronomical.

Another incident occurred in the barn when a 150-pound ladder secured to the loft area broke free and swung down from the loft narrowly missing me and one of the horses.

Our dogs and cats pick up on unseen activity, which is not unusual in hauntings. One incident, which occurred with a dog that we nicknamed the intimidator because she was large and very protective of the family. She appeared to be targeted more than any of the other dogs or cats. She began clawing frantically at the computer door (she has NEVER done this before) to get in. I opened the door and her ears were flat against her head and she had a look of extreme fear and terror. (SHE WAS NOT A FEARFUL ANIMAL.) She stayed (literally) under my feet for several minutes. No other animals were disturbed so she was targeted. This same dog began what is best described as “death howls” during her sleep. The first few times I heard it I was terrified. When she began this death howl, it was difficult to wake her up. Another young healthy young dog suddenly took ill and unable to walk just after my disabling medical condition. We took the dog to the vet and the vet said she couldn’t find anything wrong but kept her that night. The dog passed away during the night to the surprise of the vet who said it must have been a stroke.

The sound of exterior house doors open and close. This too is on a routine basis. My son and I were the first to notice this and my husband said he never heard it and poked fun of us. Then he began experiencing the doors open and close and quickly decided we weren’t imagining it.

What would a haunted house be without knockings and footsteps? I hear knockings coming from the bookcase in the master bedroom. Son’s friend who was living with us is also now hearing people walk up the front stairs and down the hall. Same friend was living in the bedroom next to my son’s. He kept hearing knockings on the wall and thinking it was my son he got up and went into my son’s room on several occasions to find our son asleep. These knockings were a nightly event between midnight and around 2:00 AM to 3:00AM. Another time our son was on the threshold of his room he heard the creaking of wood floorboards. He couldn’t discern whether the creaking was coming from the library behind him, the stairs or the 25-foot hallway leading from his room to the new section of the house. He turned on the light thinking dad or I were coming up through the old section of the house or down the hallway. The light illuminates the front stairs and upper and lower landing and some of the 25’ hallway but didn’t see anything. He felt as though something was watching him and went into his room. He said it did scare him some when he realized there was no one there. No drops in temp, no increase in temps – only the feeling of being watched. Footsteps are always heard in the long hallway from the old part of the house to the new part.

This next part is uncategorized. Our son returned home from friends around 11:00 and went to bed. His room is upfront and on the second level – there is no way to get to the balcony without a ladder or coming through the house. When he entered his room he heard scratching on the window but thought nothing of it. He turned his TV on and the scratching continued. The only light in his room was from his TV. He muted his TV out a couple of times to try to figure what was scratching because he was trying to sleep and it was becoming annoying. He was just getting ready to get an air gun to go out on the balcony to shoot whatever it was when a bright square light (white/blue) the size of a flashlight slowly came up from the bottom of the window a little bit and slowly went back down. The scratching continued any our son was terrified.

One night I awoke to a "cackling"? It had to have been loud for me to have heard it because I had taken both hearing aids out last night.

Husband noticed ceiling fan light fixture about the dining table in den fell off unit and is hanging by wires.

We will post the follow up with this home soon...
